Free indoor bins are available to qualifying Alameda County businesses, institutions, and multi-family residential properties (5+ units) for the collection of food scraps, compostable paper and plant debris (“organics”). A variety of containers and lids are available—up to a value of $500 per approved site including tax and delivery.
To reduce the spread of COVID-19, our partner vendors are taking precautions to maintain social distancing during deliveries. Drivers will be wearing face masks, and items may be left outside your delivery door or designated receiving area to minimize contact. Please note, delivery times may be delayed and some items may be on back-order. Once your order has been placed, the vendor will reach out to you to coordinate delivery details.

Once you order compost collection service, your city’s service provider will deliver outdoor organics carts or bins for pick-up. The indoor containers and equipment offered here are intended to help separate food scraps and food-soiled paper indoors before emptying the contents into the outdoor bins for organics collection by your hauler. Organics collection service may result in additional monthly cost to the property depending on the rates in your jurisdiction.
*Note for multi-family residential properties: If you only need kitchen pails for tenants to collect food scraps, and do not require larger containers for centralized collection, please contact your compost/organics service provider to request kitchen pails. If pails are not available in your city, please complete the form below to request them through this program.
Ineligible Sites: K-12 public schools and district offices, and city facilities are currently not eligible to receive containers in this program.
